Film with extended spectral sensitivity up to the IR region (750 nm).
The Rollei INFRARED is perfect for infrared photography, e.g. for photographs with the unmistakable “wood effect”. A highly sensitive, hyper-panchromatically sensitized black-and-white film with a nominal sensitivity of ISO 200/24° to 400/27°.
Rollei INFRARED is a hyperpanchromatic black-and-white negative film with a nominal sensitivity of ISO 200/24° to 400/27° up into the infrared range (650 – 750nm). It is cast on a crystal-clear, synthetic carrier, which makes it very suitable for developing as a slide. This film is characterized by its high resolving power, finest grain, and high edge sharpness. It is easy to handle and can be exposed with or without an infrared filter. Without an infrared filter, Rollei INFRARED acts like an ordinary, high-sensitivity black-and-white film. However, if an infrared filter is used, highly creative results can be achieved.
Rollei IR 400 135/36 is a panchromatically sensitized black and white negative film with extended spectral sensitivity up to the IR region (750 nm).
This enables it to handle difficult situations such as shooting in fog haze. The resulting photographs have high edge sharpness and wide exposure flexibility.
The film sensitivity is 400 ISO, but its exposure flexibility ensures good results even when overexposing by 1.5 EV and underexposing by 1 EV. The spectral sensitivity of this film ranges from 330-750 nm.
Panchromatic films react to reality in a similar way to the human eye, which perceives light rays with a wavelength of approximately 380 nm to 740 nm (visible light), but in some cases they can also be sensitive to UV and IR radiation. It is therefore advisable to use a UV filter that suppresses the effect of radiation on the film material.
In order to achieve sensitivity to the full spectrum of visible light, the films are sensitised, which ensures correct conversion of colour reality to greyscale. If the film were not sensitised, it would not be able to respond to light rays of a certain wavelength and so the resulting images would be depleted of certain parts of tonality, for example, they would not respond to green, yellow, orange and red. They would not be detected and on a black and white positive these shades would be black or otherwise dark. Such material finds application mostly in the field of scientific and industrial photography, where these "imperfections" are dealt with deliberately.
