Characteristics of Kodak Professional EKTAR 100 135-36:
Kodak Professional EKTAR 100 135-36 is a professional 35mm color negative film that features exceptionally vivid colors, ultra-fine grain, wide exposure flexibility and high edge sharpness. It is particularly suitable for large-format enlargements. Since its release, this unique film has won numerous international awards, including the TIPA Award (2009), the Professional Photographers' Hot One Award (2009, 2010) and the American Photo Editor's Choice Award (2009). The nominal sensitivity of Kodak Professional EKTAR 100 135-36 film is ISO 100, but its extraordinary exposure flexibility guarantees it very good results even when overexposed and underexposed. This allows the film to capture a full range of tones as well as a seamless Push-Pull process. Its high image quality allows it to achieve very fine grain, which also contributes to the high sharpness of the photographs and enables the film to give excellent results when developing large-format enlargements.
Panchromatic films react to reality in a similar way to the human eye, which perceives light rays with wavelengths ranging from approximately 380 nm to 740 nm (visible light), but in some cases can also be sensitive to the UV and IR component of light. It is therefore advisable to have a UV filter on the lens to suppress the effect of radiation on the film material. In order to achieve the correct sensitivity to the entire spectrum of visible light, this film is sensitized, which guarantees the correct conversion of the colour reality to the grey scale. If the film were not sensitized, it would not be able to respond to light rays of a certain wavelength, and so the resulting photographs would lack some parts of the tonal range. For example, the film would not respond to green, yellow, orange and red, i.e. it would not detect them and on a black and white positive these shades would be black or otherwise dark. Such material finds application mostly only in the field of scientific and industrial photography, where these "deficiencies" are dealt with deliberately.
Practical application:
The film is primarily intended for portrait, advertising and product photography. However, it is also used in other areas of creative photography. It guarantees a faithful reproduction of colours, including skin tones. Greater exposure flexibility offers excellent results even when underexposed.
Film processing:
The film is designed for machine processing in photo labs using Kodak Process C-41.
