A dark red/infrared filter for creative and artistic photography. Landscape shots in particular stand out. The sky gets darker, the water gets brighter. For portraits, skin imperfections will be suppressed, but also the darkness of the lips.
Suitable for filter thread: 39mm (39x0.75)
Filter type: dark red / infrared from 600 nm
MC layers (coating): none
ADOX SNAP-ON gelatin IR-2X IR filter can be used as a dark red filter or as an IR filter with filtered lower part of the spectrum (from 600 nm).
In order to achieve the desired effect in infrared photography, you must filter out the visible part of the spectrum. The figure in nanometers for infrared filters indicates the limit to which the lower part of the spectrum will be filtered out.
This filter is ideal for ADOX HR-50 or Ilford SFX films. The filter has a filter factor of only 2X, which means that the exposure time must be doubled or the aperture must be opened by one aperture number. Which means you can still shoot handheld. More powerful IR filters (e.g. from Heliopan) have factors of 4, 8 or 16 and almost always have to be used with a tripod. But then again, on the other hand, they provide more IR effect.
If you come to like IR photography with ADOX filters, nothing stands in your way and you can start upgrading to higher level IR filters.
Our Tip:
If you have multiple lenses with different filter diameters, buy the IR filter for the largest diameter and use the reduction rings to use it for other diameters.
Example:
I have a 72mm diameter lens
I have a 58mm diameter lens
Buy a 72mm diameter IR filter
Buy a 58-72mm reduction ring
