It is grey on one side, scaled in cm and inch white, and white on the other side, scaled in cm and inch black.
The grey side is used for colour balance/correction and for measuring exposure in difficult lighting conditions when poor exposure/colour shifts need to be avoided. The white side is used for white balance.
If you photograph the table along with the subject in a repro or product photo, you will have information about the size (scale) and color fidelity (reference grayscale in the image) when processing on a PC or in a photochamber. This is useful if the photograph also needs to convey information about the size of the subject. Small subjects can be photographed directly on the card.
