Fomatoner Sepia is a two-bath tinting concentrate for yellow-brown to brown tinting of both new and older black and white photographs, with the final coloration controlled by the temperature of the second bath. It is supplied in a pack of 2 x 250 ml, diluted with water in a 1+9 ratio.
Characteristics
FOMATONER SEPIA is a liquid concentrate of a two-base sulphide tinting agent designed for tinting black and white photographs to a yellow-brown to brown or purple-brown tone. The saturation and hue of the resulting coloration is controlled by the temperature of the second (i.e., tinting) bath. The tinting can be done on paper backing laminated with polyethylene (RC) - e.g. Fomaspeed as well as on paper backing with barite (e.g. Fomabrom).
The tinting machine can be used for tinting new photographs immediately after processing as well as for older photographs. As toning tends to reduce the contrast of the images, only high contrast photographs with well-covered shadow areas are suitable for this procedure. For these reasons, it is advisable to slightly overexpose the photographs.
Adjustment
FOMATONER SEPIA is produced and supplied as a two-part concentrate (bleaching solution A and tinting solution B) in a 2x250 ml pack.
Capacity
Approximately 5 m2 can be tinted from the working solutions of one kit, regardless of the type of substrate.
of photographs, i.e. approx. 120 photographs
18x24 cm. The yield depends on the optical density of the tinted photographs.
Preparation of working solutions
The two components of the tinting concentrate are diluted with water in a 1+9 ratio for use. Their composition allows the use of medium hard water.
Working procedure
Perfectly set and washed photographs are first bleached in bleach bath A. At a temperature of 25 oC, bleaching takes 2-3 minutes. This is followed by intensive washing, preferably in running water: 3 minutes for papers on laminated (RC) backing, 20-30 minutes for papers on barite backing. Immediately after washing, the photographs are placed in tinting bath B. The final tone of the image depends on the temperature of this bath:
image tone temperature
up to 20C light yellow-brown
20 - 30C warm, neutral brown
above 30C cool, dark brown to purplish brown
The resulting image tone also depends on the type of material being tinted and the development time during enlargement. Bleaching or tinting is complete when even the darkest parts of the image are bleached or tinted. The temperature of the washing water should not be higher than the temperature of the bath
B. This is followed by intensive washing (the washing time depends on the type of substrate and the water temperature - see the product instructions).
Storage
FOMATONER SEPIA should be stored in its original packaging at temperatures between 10 and 25 oC. Diluted working solutions are required.
stored in the dark at temperatures up to 20
oC and be used within 7 days.
