HARMAN SELENIUM TONER

is a liquid concentrated toner, designed for toning all black and white photographic RC and FB papers in the bowl.

It is designed for use at room temperature, nominally 20°C.

The colour and degree of tonal changes achieved will vary according to the paper type: from a cool chocolate brown, to a purplish brown, to little noticeable change. Papers with a warm tone usually produce the most visible effects.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USERS

To make a working toner solution for normal toning applications, dilute HARMAN SELENIUM TONER 1 + 3 concentrate with water. If the primary reason is to protect the image with minimal change in tone, dilute the concentrate 1 + 20 with water. Mix the concentrate thoroughly before preparing the working solution. Toner should be used at room temperature, nominally 20°C +/- 1°C.

For a 12" x 16" (30.5 x 40.6cm) bowl, 3 litres of working solution is sufficient.

TINTING

Place the stabilized photographs in a bowl of water approximately 4°C warmer than the temperature of your HARMAN SELENIUM TONER working solution.

If you are toning for the first time, we recommend that you first make two identical enlargements, leave one in the bowl of water, and tone the other. That way you can watch the density and color change as the tinting progresses. Once you gain experience with tinting, you will not find it necessary to use a reference magnification.

Grasp the photograph by the top corners with both hands, remove it from the bowl of water, and quickly dip it into the toning solution. Stir the bowl by gently rocking it throughout the toning process.

In order to judge any color changes, do not continuously watch the print in the toner as it would be more difficult to observe the subtle changes that occur. During the toning process, periodically compare the toned photo with the reference photo in the bowl of water.

If you are satisfied your photo has achieved the desired tone, remove it from the bowl and place it in a second bowl of water. Rinse for 30 - 40 seconds to stop the toning process. If the photo requires further toning, simply place it back into the toning solution and continue toning. Once you have achieved the desired tone, continue washing the photograph (RC for a further 2 minutes, FB for at least 30 minutes in freshly running water above 5°C. Alternatively, for the photos on the FB mat, use the WASHAID GALLERY wash bath followed by fresh running water.

Image protection (at 1+20 dilution) will be complete in 2-4 minutes.

RELEASE

Generally, at a standard dilution of 1 + 3, the yield of toning solution is at least 25 sheets of 20.3x25.4cm (8 "x10") per litre.

LIFETIME

The working solution will last up to 6 months in a completely full sealed bottle, 1 month in a sealed bottle filled to half its volume and up to 7 days in a bowl. An unopened bottle of HARMAN SELENIUM TONER stored at 5-20°C will last for 2 years. Once opened, use within 6 months.
